Frequently Asked Questions
What sort of application should I send and how should I send it?
Asia Online prefers to receive E-mailed applications containing your CV (resume) and the position you are applying at jobs@asiaonline.net. However, if you wish to send us a hard copy version you can mail it our Bangkok office address (see contact us). There is no need to send us a hard copy if you have E-mailed your details. Your CV should be an honest account of your employment, education and experience, plus any other information that you think we would be interested in knowing about. Typically, an introductory CV should be between 2-4 pages in length. Asia Online does not have specified selection criteria that you need to address in a written document. If we require any additional information from you, we will call you to let you know.
What happens after I apply for a position?
If you apply to Asia Online through jobs@asiaonline.net, you will receive an auto-response E-mail confirming receipt of your details. If you are successful in being considered for a role, a manager from Asia Online will contact you by phone to discuss your background and experience. How are interviews conducted at Asia Online?
The interviews are an opportunity for you to share with us your background, skills and experience. How long does the hiring process take at Asia Online?
The length of the Asia Online hiring process depends on the position posted and the number of people who have responded. Asia Online aims to inform you of any decision as rapidly as possible. If you have been successful at interview we will let you know the anticipated time frame we expect for you to wait as we progress with our consideration of other candidates. Usually, decisions regarding a preferred candidate are made within a couple of weeks of interview, but this is a case-by-case scenario.
Are references important for Asia Online?

Does Asia Online treat my application in confidence?
Asia Online understands the sensitive nature of applying for a job and the amount of personal information you disclose to us in your application. Do I need to know Thai to work at Asia Online?
You do need to be a legal resident of Thailand to work in our Bangkok office. Some of the positions posted do require a knowledge of Thai, but not all of them – we have a number of projects underway where people with skills in many other Asian languages are required. In addition, for some of our technical roles, we value computer language skills more highly than real language skills.
Do I need to know or be fluent in English to work at Asia Online?
To apply for a position at Asia Online you do not need to be fluent in English. We have a number of staff working for us already who cannot speak or read English well.
Do I need degrees or other qualifications to be considered for positions at Asia Online?
Qualifications certainly help, but they are not always required. If you can convince us that you have the right experience, and attitude, then Asia Online is prepared to consider you for a position.

As Database Administrator you will work on unique projects in Asia Online’s portal and translation systems. Other key areas of work include the adaptation and enhancement of Asia Online’s machine translation systems for scalability and new features. This is a unique role, working with some of the world’s leading translation and portal technologies in more than 10 different Asian languages and the candidate will be required to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the database system environment by sourcing, evaluating, testing and implementing the appropriate DBMS products in addition to tuning DBMS products for optimum performance as well as monitoring them closely and planning for upgrades before problems occur.

Roles & Responsibilities:-

  • Maintains MS SQL, My SQL and Oracle databases - Plans, designs, installs, upgrades, migrations, tuning, monitoring etc.
  • Research and resolve database problems. Assist in the resolution of application-related problems.

We are seeking Content Procurement Officers to manage the process of sourcing a wide range of previously translated material in various Asian languages from publishers, translation firms, the Internet, international organizations (such as the UN, ASEAN, APEC) and other sources.  

Roles & Responsibilities:-

  • To procure as large a body of local language text documents as possible that have been translated from English original material.
  • Work closely with publishers to source their translated content.
  • To transform original material into a standard digital form (file format).
  • To contribute ideas on alternative sources of translated material.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to accomplish goals within a project plan under general supervision.

Key Requirements:-
  • Excellent reading skills. 
  • Some knowledge of IT concepts.
  • Must be eager to learn about new technologies.
  • Must be hard working, self-motivated, confident, proactive and have a positive working attitude.
  • Must have excellent teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and work well with deadline.
  • Must be flexible, work well under pressure and able to cope with rapid changes.
  • Must have ability to communicate in English.

Desirable skills:-

  • A willingness and ability to travel overseas if necessary.
  • Prepared to work at home or publisher locations.
  • Experience in using computers.
